When I Met Your Grandmother

By Howard Steiner, October 10, 2019 — The best day of my life by far was the day I met your grandmother. I was home on leave from the army and went to the beach. The second I laid eyes on your beautiful grandma is the second my life was changed forever, for the better. We got engaged three weeks later – that’s how much I loved her. At the time I was not able to afford all that came with having a wife, especially one as high maintenance as Arlene (chuckles).

So, I went back to college after I got out of the army to get my bachelor’s degree so I [could] be successful and work to my full potential. Grandma was working at the time as well so that helped. We had no money, at least not enough to live on our own, so your Grandma’s parents, GG and Poppi let us live with them until we could be stable on our own. From that point forward I worked very hard, every day. So hard that I could finally afford a house. I bought one for me and Arlene in Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn, New York and made the downstairs a section for Arlene’s parents to live because of how kind they were and how they took us in with such generous, open arms. And then what happened was once GG and Poppi had passed, we now had so much money from me continuously working and what they had left for us that we finally bought the home that we have now in Staten Island.

What I am trying to say is, the best day of my life was when I met your grandmother because although we went through all of life’s complications together, we still found love at the end of the day. I don’t think I could have done it with anyone else Sarah.
