Look at Me

By Martha Milliken, November 12, 2020 — When I was younger, I was always looking for attention. I was a little underweight and found out it was my thyroid (it was overactive). I had surgery — a subtotal thyroidectomy, and that actually made me overweight. A few years passed and I kept gaining weight. I was obese. Again came another surgery. This time it was a gastric sleeve. A few years passed, yet again [I had] another surgery. I had a hysterectomy. By this time, I had been taking pain pills after each surgery. When I could no longer get pills from the doctor, I soon found heroin. That was the beginning of my addict life.
