Today’s Reason for Rushing

By Joyce Woods, January 9, 2020 — I seem to always be in a rush although I’m quite sure I enjoy it. Today, for instance, I have been waiting for the maintenance man to come to my apartment to repair a window in our bedroom. I also had a few other jobs to be fixed. I had been late for a couple of appointments and classes since the beginning of last week waiting for anyone of the three repair people to pay me a visit. That’s how it’s done in my senior apartment building. Each job has a separate maintainer to do their job. No letter is served to prepare you for the day they will arrive. After sending in your request for whichever service you require, it can be any day Monday-Friday within the hours of 8:30-4 P.M. within the time you come upon their list. Sometimes remaining home, the entire day with no one coming.
Today I received a brisk knock on the door, my reply, “Who is it?”
The answer to my delight was, “The maintenance man.” I just knew this would take a while and thought, “Another class is under the dust.”
The young man asked where was the window, I took him straight to it. He said, “I’ll be done with this in a few minutes”. He did and I left just as swift as that. I thanked him and rushed off to the train without a second to spare. Rushing paid off today.
