Third Time’s the Charm

By Jim Hourihan, October 17, 2019 — September 15, 1984, a Wednesday night. I was a single adult male that would go to dance parties thrown at local clubs along the Jersey Shore that were hosted by a radio station. One night, I rode to the club with a co-worker, it was called Brokers in Red Bank, New Jersey. I was standing there against the bar drinking a beer. We got there early so at the time the bar was pretty empty but was starting to fill up. The way into the bar was a long hallway that you had to walk down to get to where the bar and dance floor was. In walks this tall, long-haired, beauty who grabbed my attention from the start. There was something about the way she walked that drew me in. She ended up walking right past me and didn’t even notice me as if I was a bar stool next to the bar. As the place started to fill even more, I attempted to motion towards her that I would like to dance but she said no. I knew that she was special so I was persistent and didn’t want to give up. So I tried again, motioning to her again, this time she accepted. Finally, we were out on the dance floor, dancing to “Always and Forever.” Which has been true to this very day.
