The Olympics

By Janet Stinger, NJ, April 20, 2019 — My children growing up brought me a lot of happiness. My daughter Cindy was in 3 Olympics. She was a very great athlete in high school. So, she was recruited to go to the school called Davis and Elkins. It’s in West Virginia. She was recruited at a lot of schools, but she went to see this school and it was in the mountains, and it was just the nicest place. Cindy was the top player in a lot of things at her school and her team won a lot of tournaments. But anyhow, for the Olympics, they were looking for a women’s handball team. It’s a game that’s typically played in Europe, just like we play basketball in America. And she made the team. And they traveled the world to play the game. She stepped out of college for a year and was in the ‘84 Olympics. Since they were a good team, they also qualified for ‘88. So, my husband and I went to Korea in ‘88, and to Barcelona in ‘92. She got a job working for the USOC [United States Olympic Committee] and she’s been there ever since. Once an Olympian, always an Olympian. We, as parents, had so much fun with all of that. That was an exciting time in our lives.
