The Navigator

By Frances Bryce, November 21, 2019 — My husband, daughter, son, and I went out for dinner in Newport Beach Calif. We ended up with our car and all of us being stuck in the muck on a backroad, which was certainly a delay and no dinner. My husband is one of the few men who refuses to ask for directions and often we end up in a scenic route before we reach our original or intended destination, which happened on this occasion. He (my husband) decided to use his navigation skill to follow the route and turned off onto an unlighted road. My kids and I asked him to turn around, but he was sure that we would again be led by his expert skill to again connect us to the path that we should have continued on instead of the one taken.
Soon we were stuck helpless in something that I feared to guess was a nightmare.
He finally gave up trying to get the car moving and in the distance saw a light, he walked to get someone to get us out of a very embarrassing situation. The guy asked, “How did you get here?” My young son said, “Don’t be angry with Dad. He feels bad already.” A very expensive night that did not include dinner.
