The Dark Day

By Eileen, July 11, 2017 — In the spring of first grade I was out playing on the playground. On the horizon, grey angry clouds came rolling in. It looked like wool unrolling.  It came so fast that everyone ran into the school except me. I was excited that the swings were free and I could swing. So I stayed out there swinging, but it was no fun swinging when I couldn’t see.  The whole rest of the day was dark. I was told Canada was on fire and the smoke was coming from Canada. Many years later I was talking to someone in Titusville about this dark day. My friend said she remembers she was sent home and had to walk and it was pitch black.  Her uncle had a heart attack and died because he thought Jesus was coming back and he was not ready. I think it was in September or Oct of 1945 [Note: the fire occurred September 24, 1950. Click Here for more information].
