The Best Time of My Life

By Cynthia Morihara, December 10, 2020 — The best day of my life was the birth of my first child. I breastfed him for 3 years and that was the most satisfying experience I ever had. My son turned out to be a mellow, loving child. Many people liked him because of his gentle and kind nature. He was obedient and easily guided and disciplined. His favorite toys were Legos.
Now my son is 44 years old and is a certified airplane mechanic. He and his wife invited me to buy a house with them where I could live out my senior years. I bought out my section of the house and contribute to living expenses. I do household chores and provide loving care to my two grandchildren.

My grandson is not much like his father but is good in other ways. First of all, he is much more verbal than my son was as a toddler. This is because my son’s wife was a communications major and worked diligently to teach my grandson to communicate effectively. My grandson is assertive and could stand up for himself at an early age. He loves to play with the toys that his father buys for him, particularly the cars and trucks. Now that he has a younger sister, he is quick to share his toys with her.

I am very blessed to be living with my children and my grandchildren, as it is most rewarding. There have been challenges but these challenges make us stronger. Hopefully, this experience will be good [for] my grandchildren’s growth and development. For me, it is like having children all over again but without the full responsibility. I think that I am making life easier for all of them. We shall soon be celebrating two wonderful years together.
