Ready for Long Term Care??

By Frances Bryce, July 11, 2019 — Recently, I have been faced with the possibility of thinking about what senior care at a facility means, rather than spending all of my time at home.

A friend who has led a very independent life is now facing moving out of her home into a senior home care. Of course, she does not want to move, but the fact is she should have been actively involved sooner. Her house is too large for a single person now that her child is married and lives in another area outside of the city. We talked about making the move when she could make all the decisions herself.

She is suffering with a memory loss that the doctors want her to be in 24-hour care, which she has in her home, but now, we are looking at senior home care. The expenses of what she desires and [what she] wants for herself is very expensive. $5,000-$8,000 a month is the amount of the sites we visited, depending on room or one senior site calls apartments, depending upon size and what plans they offer.

Think about long-term care for yourself and how you plan to spend your time … If you have children, [have] them be involved in the important phase of your life. This will ensure you the privilege of making your wishes known.
