My Weird Citizenship

By Jin Lan Chen, April 14, 2019 — My dad got married in China. He moved to California when I was a baby and left me at home with my mom and our helper. He got a birth certificate paper in California that said that he had a family back home and came back to China by ship to us. That is how I got citizenship in the US. He took my family and I to California where we stayed for a couple years before going back to Guangdong.
This helped us because with my citizenship, I was able to take an airplane to New York with all your aunties and your dad and your cousins. There were 10 people in total, your 3 aunts, your dad, your 2 cousins, your two uncles by marriage and your grandpa and me. I was scared of the airplane but excited too. Your dad was 19 when he came to the US. He went to school and met a girl. Your grandpa and I didn’t like her because she was too short, but her personality was nice. She was quiet. She was even shorter than your aunt. So, he found another girl which was your mom.
