By Ronald Ostroff, November 12, 2020 — Hue, Phu Bai, my first deployment, taught me a lot about Oriental culture — much of it was good because Oriental [people] are all slim due to the diet and [maintaining a high] activity level [by] walking, riding a bike, and other activities.
We did have a problem though. We had flying ants in the shower to deal with. [In] October, [we had a] monsoon with three days of non-stop rain, mud up to [your] ankles, [and] leeches in the rice paddies. You had to burn off talking all kinds of shots because of the extreme difference in our cultures.
Do Nang was my second deployment. R & R was great — [I went to] Bonj Vok, Thailand, Singapore, Kula Lumpur, Hong Kong, Panama, Spain, [and] Puerto Rico.
