My Third Child

By Sarah Braun, October 6, 2019 — The day she was born was a really warm day. It was at least 95-100 [degrees] out. It was going to be really hot. I had a five-year-old and seven year old. [I thought,] “What am I going to do with my 5-year-old and a 7-year-old?” So I decided the thing to do was to take them to the [swim] club. And the neighbors all belonged to. They were all over there so we went over. Doug really liked to play Nok Hockey and those were up in the picnic area .,. So he spent most of the day back there playing with friends and would come back. He was only 5, so he was in the baby pool. And also, they had the playground right there too. There were no tennis courts yet, or they might have just been put in. And of course, they could go in the big pool too. Donna could probably swim since she was 7. She and Amy and some other friends. We were over there until about 5 at night.

We came home and I started to have labor pains, so I called your grandfather to come home. He was out playing golf at Rutgers, so I called the golf course. He was playing a match with people at J&J, so they went out and got him. What happened was Angie took the kids. And her husband, Toufik, he drove me down to the hospital. He drove me down Easton Avenue and we saw my husband, and then we switched cars. He took me to the emergency room and then she was born. We left the pool around 5 and she was born a little after 6. And then, your grandfather took Donna and Doug. They had a fair, or horse racing or something at the track at Johnson’s park. It must have been a Friday night. So they went down there in the evening and that was it. That was the day she was born.
