My Story of Yesterday

By Bernice Moore, October 21, 2009 — In the 1930s we lived in Jersey. My father had a farm with horses, pigs, and chickens, and they laid eggs. My father had people help with the farm, and one day the farm caught on fire. It was bad, a lot of the animals died. After that, my father moved to Philadelphia. In North Philadelphia, the people were different in color. We made many friends during the war year. In those days, other people were like your own family. Everyone looked after one another. We were at war with Japan and Germany. Many men and women died. My brother was in the army. He ran away to join. He came back home later, safe. He told us of friends who died. It was very sad to hear about it. In all wars, these things happen. Today we have a war that isn’t ending…
