My Drug Addiction

By Donald Dorsey, December 11, 2020 — I thought I was a functional addict. I found out that there was no such thing. The reason I thought that was because I was able to go to work. I didn’t bother anybody. I didn’t have the nerve or heart to rob anybody.

Things got really bad. I began living in an abandoned house. it soon turned into a crack house. I illegally turned on the lights and water. I lived there for 2-3 months. We had mice so we got a cat. The cat turned over a candle and the whole house caught on fire. I went to a shelter and [stayed] there for a couple of months. I got tired of the shelter and lived on the streets of Philly. I would spend my days looking for work.

I went to Eagleville’s “One Day at a Time” program. I got clean in jail. I was incarcerated for scofflaw. I didn’t want to get involved with the population so I started reading my bible. God helped me overcome my addiction [when] nothing else worked.
