Meeting Mr. Rossi

By Ruth Rossi, April 17, 2019 — I’m gonna tell you something, I had the best in-laws that anyone could have. They were wonderful, and I married their son who was an only child. Someone who knew us introduced us. And we went out together one night. He took about a year and a half off of his age; he thought he was a little too old for me. But, turns out, he wasn’t. We found a place outside of town where you could get something to eat, like a sandwich or something — that was our first date. On Sunday nights, he had to work at Fort Dix. He was in charge of the automotive section. So, he had to leave me at 10 o’clock, but he took me out for a sandwich anyway.

For our wedding, I didn’t have a big white gown or all of that, but I had a beautiful two-piece pinkish satin set. [The] skirt flared out just a little bit, [and had] covered buttons. I went into a store and asked what color I should put with that and they suggested brown. So, I found this little brown hat. I wanted to get a picture of it, but I didn’t get one. And brown shoes. My picture is hanging around here somewhere. It was me and Mr. Rossi and his cousin was the best man. I had a girl that I knew from work to stand by me. So, we came out of the church and found out that his family had put something together for us and I wasn’t expecting that. But, it was well.
