Latchkey Kid

By Carolyn Boston, October 29, 2020 — I was a latchkey kid. So, I basically had a key on my neck. My mother put it on there. I remember going home for lunch, coming back. Which was easy because the school was basically a block from my house, so it was very easy. And at that time these were row houses and the neighbors would even look and make sure that you weren’t doing anything wrong.
In those days I think it was more of a neighborhood that we just really generally cared about each other. We knew families for generations, and I miss that, but I don’t think that will come back again.
