It’s Getting Cold

By  Barbara E. Garnett,  October 16, 2018 — With a chill in the air, cooler days are coming.  With the chill comes the bitter cold.  With Old Man Winter comes November, Thanksgiving Day, December: Christmas Day and December, New Year’s Day.  Everyone at one time or another will be thinking about the coming holidays and spending money. Today, I will have a hot cup of tea or coffee and watch a TV program.

I remember as if it were yesterday, the cold evenings that my family and I would watch television and time stood still.  The “good ole days,” I’ll think…I am with my brothers and sisters skating up and down the street over and over again.  I remember the good smells coming from the kitchen as Mama cooked meals.  We would run and jump rope and sometimes sit on the steps talking about the future.  Who would we marry?  How many children we would have? If only we knew then what we know now.  Hours would slip away in the chill of the day.

We would have a snack of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or pound cake and a glass of milk.  We would say “Good Night “ to each other and “See you in the morning”.

Weather conditions make you think of the past.  Dreams of a lifetime that slipped away.
