In The Nature Of Confession

By Edward Langer, October 23, 2014 — I have many projects in mind…many of them for many years…some even initiated.  Last year – or maybe it was three years ago – I read a remark attributed to Thomas Jefferson.  When a diplomat from France visited Monticello and was very impressed with the residence and grounds, he asked Jefferson when it would all be completed.  Jefferson succinctly responded, “NEVER.”

You can now see where I’m headed…enmeshed in concentric projects with fantasy goals of completion.  But wait, there’s more.  While searching my scrambled tool assortment for a specific metric ratchet-wrench, I inadvertently came upon a perfect method for reversing a corner on a bookshelf unit I’ve been slowly building.  This was really inspiring.  Now, my wife and I could walk into our living room upon a beautiful American Oriental carpet instead of our growing carpet of books…easier on the ankles, for sure.  Books organized by topic, author, and so on, and on our shelves:  how shockingly normal…disturbingly efficient.

I almost can’t believe this.  Stay in touch with me, because Winter is fast approaching, and I might even find my left eight-inch boot.
