Hunger

By Joe Garrison, August 23, 2012 — Most people, when they think of hunger, they think of a want for food, but you can be just as hungry for companionship and friendship. I have been living alone for about 6 years and the loneliness is starting to get to me. Loneliness and solitude can be almost like a fungus that eats away at you. I plan to change my living arrangements soon to a place where I can actually meet people and get close to someone. I am grateful for this writing class and the people I have met here. I enjoy the camaraderie and fellowship that exists here. I feel as though I am a part of something. This class gives me a chance to be myself, share my life experiences, and give people an idea of what my life has been like. At the same time, this class allows me to get to know others from the inside. It’s not shallow or superficial. I’ve gotten to know people here so well through their stories. The need for friendship is just as vital for a person as the need for food.
