How We See Things: Proactive

By Delores Wilson, October 21, 2019 — We can start by being practical, a people, the citizens of the United States of America. “Vote.” Our right to vote gives us a voice in this great “democracy.” The place where I worked hired many foreign nurses from all over the world. They had a working visa. A group from Africa said something I didn’t like but I knew it was true and I needed to hear it. That was, “You Americans are spoiled and take much for granted.” My coworkers and I decided not to take offense but to dialogue about the statement.

Rather than take offense, we began to investigate the things that we thought we knew. Each one of us admitted that we had in fact taken much for granted in this country. Perfect, we were not, but we have the freedom to vote. As we learned, it’s all in perspective, the glass half full or the glass half empty.
