How Fate Brought Us Together

By Amy Haller, December 12, 2019 —  In 1985 I was fortunate to meet a very charming man. He had red hair, green eyes, and a very charming English accent. He asked me out to dinner and we shared an evening of sincere and interesting conversations. A few days later he called me again to invite me out again.

After a few dates, I realized he was going to be the man for me. It was so clear in my mind that we were well suited for each other. A few months later he invited me to Portugal to meet his entire family and celebrate his mom’s 70th birthday. His family lives in England and we celebrated a week together at a villa having fun and getting to know each other.
His mother’s name is Iris and there was something about her that I liked immediately. Her warmth, intelligence, and sincerity were visible from the start. A year later, Anthony and I were married in Buffalo, New York where I grew up. We had about 35 people come from England to attend our wedding. My first time in England was the following Christmas. We brought my parents and they had never been overseas so this was a very exciting trip. My connections to Europe and overseas travel have opened up an entirely new world for me. I have experienced other countries and cultures and this has made me a more interesting person.
Anthony was raised in Nairobi and then and then moved to England when he was 12. I really do believe that it was fate that brought a boy from Africa and a girl from Buffalo together. 33 years later, we are still very much in love and have built a wonderful family together. Our 2 daughters and 2 poodles give us great pleasure. I am very grateful that our 2 lives have merged together to make such an interesting life.
