His Eyes on Me

By Frances Bryce, November 19, 2020 —

He was tall, tan, and handsome to see.
When he walked into the room, his eyes were just on me.
He was cool, debonair, and bright.
I was enchanted when he held me late that night
I saw what others could not possibly see
I knew that he only had eyes for me
He was always on my mind
How lucky was I, a great find
Lately, the checks came. I paid.
He said, no time to get to the bank, that’s what he said.
Until lately, he wore his mask
Until a small voice called and stopped me in my tracks
A voice said, “I’m his wife, you see.
He has had his fun, but he really belongs to me.”
Not only did I finally see what everyone saw
Now I saw too.
