First Born

By Irene Parker, October 1, 2019— The date was April 5th, 1962. I was at home on maternity leave from my job and was pregnant with my daughter Irene. Irene is the oldest of three sisters. My husband was home when my water broke and quickly drove me to the hospital. It felt like I was in the hospital for an eternity before I actually gave birth to Irene. Back in 1962, many husbands/fathers were not in the delivery room while everything was happening and only came in after the baby was born. My Irene was the cutest little baby I had ever seen. This was such a special day for me because I had always wanted to be a mother and had looked forward to having her own family my whole life.
