Finding Your Way

By Charles Young, November 19, 2020 — We move along in life and then something happens in your life. For example, you [have] an illness that has gotten worse, where do you go? Who can help you get [passed] things? In my experience, it helps to talk to people [who] may have gone through what you are going through and it can help move you along.

Another example is programs for veterans that many vets are unaware of, like me. I was living in a place that was being sold and needed a place to live. I thought “Oh no! What am I going to do?” I would not talk about it because I was embarrassed and ashamed of it. One day, while talking casually to a friend, I mentioned that I needed to move soon. The friend smiled and told me, “Man, do I have a program for you.” He then told me about the program at St. Bart’s. I have been here a year or so and I love it here but had I never said anything, who knows where I might be. So it really does help when you talk to people.
