Christmas Dinner

By MaryJane, November 20, 2019 — For all of my life, I have LOVED this holiday. There was one year that I specifically remember in detail. It was my husband and me together, and our kids were getting ready to sleep. My husband and I were walking next door to the neighbors’ house, as we usually do every year on Christmas Eve… but the kids did not go to sleep. By the time we came home, the kids had opened all of their presents early, before they knew we were coming home. The kids hid in the closet of their living room, which happened to be a sliding door and they all fit perfectly.

One of the most important parts of our Christmas holiday was Christmas dinner. I always had to start preparing the dinner at least a day before. If not, the day of Christmas would be so hectic and stressful, since there is so much to do to prepare. Starting on Christmas Eve, I would prepare the turkey, stuffed with my homemade stuffing mix, and all of the vegetables. I also make all the pies and cookies for dessert too. It is also important to set up the dining table with placemats and silverware. My brothers and sisters were usually the helpers with setting up the dining table specifically. I love making a Thanksgiving-style dinner for Christmas also since it was my mother’s favorite…she always worked so hard and I loved her so much. Since she passed, Christmas dinner has been held at my house every year. A total of fifteen people join us for dinner each year, including my husband, me, the kids, my brothers and sisters, and my favorite uncle. Christmas with my family is truly a day I will never forget.
