Celebration Party at SJU

By Dr. Michael Tsuei, November 16, 2017 — I had a wonderful time on Tuesday night at Saint Joseph University Campus. The President of the school put on a pumpkin party for the year. According to my knowledge, they had been doing the party for the elderly senior citizens for the past forty-two years. That night we all enjoyed good food, music, and dancing. Especially the musical group performing the old Big Band music and quiet beat of frank conversations and lots of jazz music at our table. We had a lady named Mary. She was 90 years old and performing, singing old jazz. Meanwhile, I learned lots of her stories and about what [she] had experienced.
By my own observation, the elderly gentleman at the party liked dancing with the young college girls. They all volunteered for these major events. To my surprise, the elder lady also liked dancing with the young boy students at the end. I also saw something very interesting at our table — two ladies getting lucky winning the flower basket at drawing by the ticket. Also, the table setting only filled up to half of the table so the only thing [that] stayed on the table was the tablecloth so that the rose flowers on the table with vase [could be] given away. There was lots of food left over at our table. The ladies prepared for such an event. They all took out lunch bags and put [away] all the food on the table. Nothing will be wasted. Then I remembered the old proverb: “When you are young you are overindulging [in] eating and shouting. Then when you get older, you grab everything around you before your life ends.” By the way, at our table, one lady [was] 95 years old and another lady was 91. Nevertheless, I had a great time. [There was] lots of spirit. It was a wonderful party. Thank you Saint Joseph’s University for doing that.
