Catholic School

By Charles Weber, April 20, 2019 — As a child, I was raised in a very strict household with strong values in the Catholic religion. I was raised Catholic, went to Catholic school and was an active member of my church for years. I did not have much structure or guidance as a kid and when it came to getting to school, I had to rely on myself. In the morning, I remember having to wake up before 6 am to walk to the subway and take multiple subways to get to my school. Today kids take buses, but I had to figure out what exact subways to take and had to give myself enough time to walk from the subway to my Catholic school in Queens, New York at a young age. The school I attended was very strict and had many rules that were much different from a typical school that you would attend today. I was naturally left-handed as a child, but my teacher would slap my hand with a yardstick every time I would write with my left hand. By the time I graduated high school, I was ambidextrous because I was forced to learn how to write with my right hand.
Along with attending Catholic school, I was an altar boy at the local Catholic Church. As I spent my childhood heavily involved in the Catholic religion, I even considered becoming a priest. However, I decided not to follow through with this because I met your grandmother and I would never have been able to marry her if I followed through with this commitment.
