Birth of My Children

By Ilene Felman, October 14, 2019 — Since I can’t choose between my children, I’ll talk a little bit about the births of all three of my my children. These stories may not exactly sound like the best days or experiences, but once you get to hold your baby, you forget all the pain and chaos that you went through in order to get to that point.
With my firstborn, Lisa, I had German Measles when I went into labor. I was put completely to sleep. Holding Lisa for the first time I loved her to death, but I couldn’t help myself from thinking that she was an ugly baby. Fortunately, three months in she blossomed to a beautiful baby, yet up until that point, I sort of put bonnets on her head to cover her face a little bit!
My second born, Jennifer, came in the tenth month of pregnancy, and while she was coming out in labor, she turned and went all the way back up so they had to start the process all over again.
The real story is with the last born, Christopher. Chris was an unexpected pregnancy to begin with. I was an hour away from home at work, and kept having to go to the bathroom even though I wasn’t drinking anything in between. After a little bit I realized that my water had broke. I got to the hospital and was in labor from 6:30 am-3:28 pm. They didn’t allow me to take any pain-relieving drugs or anything, but once I got to hold him, all I could feel was love.
