Bermuda Triangle

By Marie, January 29, 2019 — Dee got John and I tickets for a cruise to Bermuda for our 25 year anniversary. It was the first time either of us had been on a cruise. When we first got on the ship we were waving to our family that came to see us off. Everyone says they saw me waving the one second, then didn’t see me anymore. It wasn’t until the next day when everyone kept coming up to me asking how I was that I found out that I had fainted into my chair before the cruise had set sail. That was probably from the glass of champagne I had and I also hadn’t eaten that day yet.

On one of our first days there, we met two teenage girls who had never been on a vacation without their families before. The girls took a liking to me, and they asked if they could sit with us at dinner for the duration of the cruise. The girls spent the majority of the trip with me and my husband. I think they were nervous to be on their own without their parents. They came with us to bingo every night.

One night, we all went to bingo, and I was all dolled up.. hair and makeup done, bracelets… I used to have beautiful hair then, it was still high and poofy like it is now.. just long and brown. While we were playing bingo, the ship started swaying gently at first, then more violently. The captain got over the loud speaker and told us to remain calm, and whatever we do, do not look outside. Soon after the announcement, slot machines were flipping over, chairs were sliding across the floor, and chaos broke out. People were crying and throwing up. The two teenage girls now were latching onto my arms and crying. They were praying that if they made it out of this alive they would never go on a cruise again. At this point I was getting curious about why the captain told us not to go outside so I wanted to see what was going on. So I stumbled over to the door, opened it, and went outside. When I tell you the sky looked like this… (picks up my cell phone and gestures towards my pitch black phone screen). There was not a star, not a light, I couldn’t see my own hand in front of my face. I walked back in to the bingo room and screamed, “It’s the Bermuda triangle!!!! I am never going to see my family again!!” Never went on boat after that day.
