Beach Days

By Janet Stinger, April 20, 2019 — Every summer as a kid, I went to the shore for a week or two with my family; down to Lavalette. So, when I had my children, I wanted to do the same with them by bringing them to Seaside Heights. When they were babies, we started going. I was like, “We have to go to the shore,” because I went every year, but my husband Chris had never gone. His parents didn’t go. And he asked, “What do you even DO down there?” And I said, “You can fish, I’ll get you a pole!” He ended up taking up the fishing, so that made him happy. And my kids LOVED the shore. We always went out crabbing because we had a pier right on Fifth Avenue. We rented a house there for many years. Later on down the road, my daughter Wendy came to me, right after she had gotten married, and she asked me about buying something different; a rooming house in Seaside Heights. It had 16 rooms. Every year, we were open for a few months because a lot of the people who would pay to stay there were high school students on prom weekend. It was really successful. We ran that business for 18 years. It’s crazy, I just always loved the beach.
