Adventures of Kenya

By Irene Parker, October 1, 2019 — Back in the day my husband and I were extremely well-traveled. We traveled to every continent, except Antarctica, and made tons of memories. My most memorable experience was when we visited Kenya in 1985.

My husband and my friends rented a car to drive around all the game preserves in their area for 3 days. We would move to different housing areas each night and keep on driving the next day. We ended up seeing elephants giraffes and other grazing creatures. However, one day we all set out in the car and came across some white rhinos and were able to take pictures of them. Next, we ended up having a family of cheetahs sitting and laying all over the car for a few hours. Finally, we came across a river that had some hippos in it. My husband and his buddy wanted to see how close they could get to the hippos. So he and his friend went down to the edge of the water and were considering wading into the shallows until a hippo charged at them and sent them running all the way back to the car to safety.

On the way to our new resting area for the night it had gotten so dark that we had to drive along an old and dry river bank to get to the rest area. My husband ended up having to walk in front of the car at night so that I actually knew where to drive. Finally, we arrived at the resting area where we were greeted and brought to our tents for the night. The tent was a decently sized tent, but each tent in the area had a full modern bathroom attached to it on the side. It was very strange.

This is one of my craziest travel stories.
