Words Have Power

Since I retired in 2013, I have been creating new possibilities for myself. One of them began with the desire to create more adventure in my life. I love to travel but have not been outside the U.S.A. since 2000, when I chaperoned forty-six high school students who sang in the concert choir on a trip to Switzerland. They performed on the same tour as the singers, “The Barrett Sisters,”  in eight concerts.

I began to think of where to visit that I had not been before. In an interview for assisting an educational program, I was asked what I wanted to create for myself. In response, I said, “I want to visit South Africa.” I wrote it down as one goal to accomplish:  “I will visit South Africa by December 2014.” This was written in July 2013.

By December, I learned from a friend with whom I had not spoken for two years that her church was planning a trip to South Africa and had gone every year. In fact, her daughter and granddaughter had just returned within the past week. She promised to send me the information for the next trip. In February 2014, I received the flyer, an application, and payment schedule. I made a deposit in March and paid the balance in September.

I am looking forward to spending some of the best days of my life in South Africa. I leave in two weeks.
