Virginia Vacation

By Carol Swantek, August 9, 2017 — When my father retired, they moved to Arizona. He said he never wanted to see a snowflake again. He was a fireman, and it seemed like all the fires happened in January. He was also in the Coast Guard, and one year he took our family to Jamestown Virginia (which is by Norfolk) and we had to stay for 2 weeks in a small trailer, and he went on the base and trained for 2 weeks. It was so hot in there with no air conditioning. I said, “I’m never going on a vacation like that again!” We didn’t do a lot because it was so hot outside. But we got to go to Ocean View Park in Norfolk, which was nice and we got to see our cousins because her husband was in the Navy. I sent my friend a postcard in 1963 and she gave it back to me. She had saved it for all these years.
