Vegas with the Rhinestone Cowboy

By Carol Swantek, August 16, 2017 — Back in the seventies, my husband and I flew out to Arizona, and we met my parents in Las Vegas at a dinner show. The Lennon sisters were going to open up the act, and they were really good. And then Glen Campbell was on, and he played Rhinestone Cowboy for the first time. I was so thrilled, I had tears running down my face. I couldn’t believe I was in Las Vegas. And then his son came out, he had skinned knees, he wasn’t supposed to do that but it was so cute. Who plays how many different instruments he could play? He could play the violin, the banjo, the drums. He could also sing any kind of song. He also had his own show, The Glen Campbell Show. He always had his hair flipped over, and everyone would tease him about how much hairspray he used. It seems like yesterday in some ways, but that was back in the seventies.
