The Most Stubborn Baby

By Bonnie Baylinson Hanker, April 28, 2019 — I was at my daughter’s baby shower — thrown after her baby was born— and she said her labor lasted for two days. It must run in the family, because when I was pregnant with her, I was in labor for four days. Originally, I wanted to have a home birth with a midwife, but hours passed, and then days. Eventually, it got to the point where [I] said, “I can’t deliver this baby. We need to take her to the hospital.” We did, and I told the doctor that I did not want to have a C-section. The doctor tried to deliver my daughter, business as usual. But just when it seemed like she was facing the right way and ready to come out, she latched her head onto my pubic bone! At some point, she breached, so the doctor had to go in there, turn her around and yank her out! He told me my little Marissa was the most stubborn baby he’d ever met, but she was happy and healthy and that was what mattered.
Three years later, I was talking about pregnancy and when I was carrying Marissa. To my surprise, Marissa said, “I remember being in your womb. I liked it in there, and I didn’t want to come out.”
Well, that explains why she took so long to be born!
