By Lorraine L., August 15, 2017 — I learned to sew when I was I year old. I would lay my baby doll down on the porch on top of a piece of material, trace around it and cut it out. Then I would hand stitch around my cut out and make my doll outfits. I have been sewing ever since. I took classes in Home Economics class at school from seventh through twelfth grades.
The project I am most proud of is when I made my niece her prom gown. My Sister-in-law sent me her measurements, a pattern and material. I made it and mailed it back to her and it fit perfect.
I made my niece her bridal veil and another niece her bridal party dresses. I made my wedding dress and my daughter’s wedding dress. I made baby quilts that I tied and didn’t follow any pattern. Now I am teaching my grandkids how to sew.
My husband bought me an embroidery machine and I traded it later on a new one. I learned to crochet on my own. I started making Raggedy Ann dolls. When my daughter left hers, I went out and bought material and made her a new doll. Since then I also made girl scout dolls.
My dream is to make a big quilt from all my scraps.
