Nick-names are usually given by family members, either at birth or after a child develops certain characteristics. When my granddaughter was born, she was a soft chocolate brown with chubby cheeks. When her granddad looked into her eyes, he said, “I have my own ‘Rudi’ now.” She looked like the Rudi character on the Bill Cosby show. As she grew, she looked and acted like little Rudi.

Her name is Porsche. She’s now twenty-seven years old and got married Sunday, November 9, 2014.  As the pastor who baptized her conducted the ceremony, he called her Rudi so many times I was concerned that the marriage might not be legal. When he reached the most important part of the vows, he finally called her Porsche. I was very relieved when he realized he was calling her Rudi.

Well, I said all that to let you know that I gave myself a nickname. I call myself Mikey  because of a commercial about a little guy who would try anything. Yes, I’m Mikey because all you have to do is ask Mikey, and I will do it. I am a piano student at Mather’s–More Than a Café and simply love spending time with my instructor, Jan Mason.

One Tuesday after my session, Jan asked me if I would like to participate in an eight-week program called “The Best Day of My Life So Far.”  Well, I had to live up to my nickname, Mikey. I said, “Yes,  I can do that. Okay, Jan, I’ll support your program.”

I must say that I have enjoyed the writing circle to the utmost. I usually consider topics to write on as soon as I leave the session. I only missed  one session and look forward to sharing stories with the other writers. This is the last day of the program and I feel a sadness. I have learned a lot, shared a lot and enjoyed a lot with a group of  ladies who touched my heart, mind and soul. Mikey is satisfied. I look forward to the next eight-week session.
