I Wonder

By Constance Carroll, January 2015 — One of the most exciting moments of my life was when Barack Obama became our newly elected president.  When I awoke the next morning after the election, I thought I was a dreaming. I turned on the TV and learned he had actually won. I thought to  myself, what an amazing and magnificent achievement for the African American people.  We have a Black president!

As I look back over the last two years of President Obama’s second term in the Oval Office, I can feel a dark cloud hanging over the United States. I remember when the price of fuel was topping five dollars a gallon. The prices of food and anything transported escalated. The hatred and bitterness shown toward President Obama have been most disrespectful and almost unbelievable.

I bought fuel for my car today at the price of two dollars and eighty-two cents per gallon. I thought, how can this man be so bad when people can do more with their money than just buy gasoline?  How can this man be such a horrible president when my children and the children of my friends have found decent well-paying jobs within the last two years.

I wonder what historians will record about the first black president of America with the financial structure of our country getting better day by day. Will it be all bad, all good, or will it be nothing at all?  I wonder.
