Honeymoon and Honey BOOM!

By Marion Merrick, July 29, 2014 — It was our wedding night and we had moved into my grandmother’s home that had been vacant for a while. I was so excited when the new furniture and oil stove (VERY hi-tech in its day!), were delivered!  My brand new husband had to go to work that night at the bakery and I didn’t want to wait for him to return home and set up our new, and very heavy, bedroom set so decided that I could do it, and I did!

It was summertime and especially hot in the Texas town we lived in and to beat the heat, many of our neighbors slept on their lawns or patios, and of course everyone’s windows were wide open in hopes of catching any breeze. Well, we proceeded to test out our new bed AND new marriage, but as we merely sat down on the bed, it CRASHED to the floor with a reverberating BOOM that echoed across the neighborhood! After we got our wits back together we could hear nothing but laughs and cheers from all of our neighbors who assumed, however incorrectly, that we had broken our bed NOT just by sitting on it!
