Getting Back My Ring

When I was in high school during the football season, I had a crush on the girl who lived next door who was a classmate  of mine at school. So one day, I decided to give her my class ring.

I think she was on her porch one day showing it off. Apparently, my sisters saw her, and word got back to my parents. Walking in the kitchen one afternoon, my mother asked me where my  ring was.  I told her I gave it to Danise. My mother asked me,  “Did Danise buy it?” My father just sat looking at me to see how this was going to play out.

After that, I knew that I had to get the ring back. I figured out a plan but it took me three days to get the ring back. I came up with a plot and asked one of my friends to help me, but he said no. I wanted my friend to walk up to Danise and put his arm around her, then I’d pretend to be angry. My other friend jumped in and said he’d do it. So a couple days later, he walked up to her and put his arm around her shoulder. When he did this, I popped up and said, “Give me my ring back!”

She didn’t talk to me too much after that. Years later, I told my daughters about it, and they said, “Daddy, that was wrong!”
