Boxing

By Frederick Kuzmin, June 27, 2017 — Way back in my grade school years, I grew up on Greengarden Avenue and one of the guys I used to hang around with was one of the Bizzarros. The whole family lived there, so you almost had something to do every day. That’s when Johnny Bizzarro was going for world championship, so we talked about boxing almost every day, and I used to bug Louie Bizzarro because he was the smallest one. I said “I want to see how good you really are” and that went on for a couple of months and finally he just says “Let’s go”. So we both put on boxing gloves and they said “Go”, and 10 minutes later, I came to and I was lying on the ground. So it was kind of a good experience, you know, it was something to talk about. I was 11 years old and he was a couple years older than me. I got to go to a Durant fight, that was kind of fun along with that. That was when Johnny fought one of the other brothers. He fought for the world title in Erie but he lost. That’s one of the life experiences that you just don’t forget.
