By Carmen, August 27, 2014 – I was raised in the Yesler Terrace Projects, in a 2 parent household, with 2 sisters – I am the middle child.  My dad worked for the Parks and Rec department, my mom was a Harborview dietician. Times were hard. We worked at bean fields in the summer to earn money for clothes and shoes.

There was always food in the house (stews, beans of every kind, and chili). I was raised Seven Day Adventist. Everything that was pork, my mom bought beef!! At nineteen, I decided to eat and go to Pork heaven! To this day I prefer pork chops to steaks!

At sixty, my mom went to Seattle Community College to get her high school diploma. My grandmother is from New Orleans. She helped to raise my two children while I worked and on weekends kept them so I could have some down time.
